Het Element-object
Het Element-object vertegenwoordigt een element in een XML-document. Elementen kunnen attributen, andere elementen of tekst bevatten. Als een element tekst bevat, wordt de tekst weergegeven in een tekstknooppunt.
BELANGRIJK! Tekst wordt altijd opgeslagen in tekstknooppunten. Een veelvoorkomende fout bij DOM-verwerking is om naar een elementknooppunt te navigeren en te verwachten dat het de tekst bevat. Zelfs het eenvoudigste elementknooppunt heeft echter een tekstknooppunt eronder. In <year>2005</year> is er bijvoorbeeld een elementknooppunt (jaar) en een tekstknooppunt eronder, dat de tekst (2005) bevat.
Omdat het Element-object ook een Node is, neemt het de eigenschappen en methoden van het Node-object over.
