Definitie en gebruik

Met de eigenschap alt wordt de waarde van het alt-attribuut van een afbeelding ingesteld of geretourneerd.

Het vereiste alt-attribuut specificeert een alternatieve tekst voor een afbeelding, als de afbeelding om wat voor reden dan ook niet kan worden weergegeven (vanwege een trage verbinding, een fout in het src-attribuut of als de gebruiker een schermlezer gebruikt).

Opmerking: Internet Explorer geeft de waarde van het alt-attribuut weer als knopinfo wanneer u met de muis over het <img>-element gaat. Dit is NIET het juiste gedrag, volgens de HTML-specificatie. Alle andere browsers volgen de specificatie en geven alleen de alt-tekst weer als de afbeelding niet kan worden weergegeven.

Tip: Als u knopinfo voor een afbeelding wilt maken, gebruikt u het attribuut globale titel.
