PHP heeft een reeks trefwoorden die gereserveerde woorden zijn die niet kunnen worden gebruikt als functienamen, klassenamen of methodenamen. Voorafgaand aan PHP 7 konden deze trefwoorden ook niet worden gebruikt als klasse-eigenschapsnamen:
